Unique chocolate-infused beef chili served over spaghetti and topped with cheddar cheese.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup chopped onion
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 0.25 cup chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 0.5 (1 ounce) square unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 (10.5 ounce) cans beef broth
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 0.25 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, sauté the onion in oil until tender, about 6 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Brown the beef in batches if needed, using a wooden spoon to break it up as it cooks.
  • Combine chili powder, cinnamon, cumin, allspice, cloves, bay leaf, chocolate, beef broth, tomato sauce, cider vinegar, and red pepper in the pot. Mix thoroughly. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat, covered, for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Chill in the refrigerator overnight for the best flavor.
  • Discard the bay leaf, gently reheat over medium heat, and serve on top of hot, drained spaghetti. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese before serving.
