Whip up 3 irresistible cinnamon raisin loaves swirled with spiced sugar, ideal for buttered toast.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1.25 cups white sugar, divided
  • 0.5 cup margarine, softened
  • 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions:
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, gently warm 1 1/2 cups of milk until bubbles form. Remove from heat and allow it to cool to lukewarm temperature.
  • Combine warm water and yeast in a large bowl, allowing it to sit until frothy, approximately 5 minutes. Mix in raisins, eggs, 1/2 cup sugar, margarine, and salt until well combined. Stir in cooled milk, then gradually incorporate flour to form a stiff dough.
  • Take dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly. Place in a large greased bowl, coating the dough with grease. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled, approximately 1 hour.
  • Prepare three 9x5-inch loaf pans by greasing them; then set them aside.
  • Deflate dough and place it on a floured surface. Roll it out into a large rectangle, approximately 1/2-inch thick. Brush the dough with 2 tablespoons of milk. Combine 3/4 cup sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl; evenly spread over the dough. Roll the dough into a tight log, around 3 inches thick.
  • Divide the log into thirds and shape each portion into a loaf, tucking the ends under neatly. Transfer to the loaf pans, lightly grease the tops, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for that perfect cooking temperature.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until loaves are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped, approximately 45 minutes. Remove from pans, brush with melted butter, and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
