Whimsical clown cupcakes perfect for circus-themed parties. Simple decorations kids can enjoy making with you.
Ingredients:
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 6 ounces cream cheese, cubed
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 24 mini chocolate chips
  • 12 red candy-coated milk chocolate pieces (such as M&M's®)
  • 12 gummi worms
  • 0.5 cup orange candy-coated milk chocolate pieces (such as M&M's®)
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare a 12-cup muffin tin by greasing it or lining the cups with paper liners.
  • In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar using an electric mixer until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture and milk in alternating small amounts, mixing well after each addition.
  • Fill the prepared muffin cups with batter, leaving 1/4 of the cup empty.
  • Bake until tops spring back when lightly pressed, approximately 20 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely, around 20 minutes.
  • In a bowl, blend cream cheese and butter together until creamy using an electric mixer. Gradually add confectioners' sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract halfway through adding the confectioners' sugar.
  • After the cupcakes have cooled, generously frost each one with cream cheese frosting. Add 2 chocolate chips for the eyes, 1 red M&M® for the nose, and 1 gummy worm for the mouth. Finally, create two rows of orange M&M's® on top to form the hair.
