Impressive fusion appetizers: Mozzarella sticks meets crab Rangoon, perfect for parties.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (8 ounce) package imitation crabmeat, chopped
  • 0.25 cup sliced green onions
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1.75 cups panko bread crumbs
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Place a sheet of parchment paper in an 8-inch square baking pan, ensuring the paper extends beyond the edges of the pan.
  • Combine cream cheese, mozzarella, crabmeat, green onions, powdered sugar, salt, and garlic powder in a bowl until well mixed. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan and freeze for 30 minutes.
  • Transfer the cream cheese mixture onto a cutting board using the parchment paper. Divide the frozen block in half, then slice each half into 8 sticks horizontally (resulting in sixteen 4x1-inch sticks).
  • Place flour in a shallow dish. Combine eggs and water in another shallow dish. Add panko to a third shallow dish.
  • Coat each cream cheese stick in flour, then dip in the egg mixture allowing the excess to drip off. Press into panko breadcrumbs to coat thoroughly. Place on a baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to a cozy 200 degrees Fahrenheit (95 degrees Celsius).
  • In a medium saucepan, pour in a generous 1 1/2-inch depth of oil. Heat the oil to a perfect 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Fry 3-4 sticks at once until beautifully golden for about 1 minute. (Keep remaining sticks in the freezer until ready to fry.)
  • Drain the fried sticks on paper towels, then move them to a baking sheet and keep them warm in the preheated oven. Repeat with the remaining sticks.
