Enhance frosting with nutty browned butter for a rich flavor, ideal for banana, carrot, and spice cakes.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup butter, divided
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
  • 0.5 fluid ounce bourbon whiskey
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions:
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 1/2 cup butter. Stir occasionally and cook for 15 to 20 minutes until the milk solids turn brown and release a nutty aroma.
  • In a mixing bowl, blend 1/4 cup of butter and cream cheese together. Pour in the browned butter and let it sit for about three minutes to soften the ingredients. Scrape in the vanilla bean seeds and add the bourbon, then mix on low speed until smooth.
  • Alternate adding confectioners' sugar and cream until the frosting reaches the desired consistency. If too soft, refrigerate for 30 minutes before decorating.
