Delicate apple roses that taste and look amazing - the perfect way to share your love.
Ingredients:
  • 31.50 gm lemon juice
  • 1 pink lady apple (see Note)
  • 50-70g butter, melted
  • 16.00 gm brown sugar
  • 2.50 gm ground cinnamon
  • 5 sheets filo pastry (see Note)
  • Icing sugar, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 200C (180C fan-forced) and grease a mini muffin tin.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, pour the lemon juice. Halve the apple, remove the core, and thinly slice into 1mm pieces, placing them in the lemon juice. Add enough water to barely cover the slices. Microwave, covered, on high for 2 minutes. Drain thoroughly and transfer to a large plate to cool (ensuring the apple retains its shape and is pliable).
  • Mix together the butter, sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • One at a time, brush filo sheet with butter mixture, fold in half lengthwise, and then in half again. Cut in half. Brush pastry with butter mixture. Arrange 7-8 apple slices, overlapping along the top edge, slightly hanging over the pastry. Roll to form a rose. Place, apple side up, in tin. Repeat to make 10 roses. Bake for 30 minutes until pastry is golden and cooked.
