Crispy BBQ tofu: coat tofu in egg whites, flour, fry, grill with BBQ sauce. Family favorite!
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package extra firm tofu
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon barbeque sauce
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup barbeque sauce
Instructions:
  • Slice tofu into strips after draining. Freeze overnight in a plastic bag or container to achieve a meatier texture. Thaw tofu strips and pat dry with paper towels before using.
  • Start by heating olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Whisk together the egg white and 1 tablespoon of barbeque sauce in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the flour with salt and pepper. Dip tofu slices into the egg mixture, then coat them with the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Fry the tofu in the hot oil for about 1 minute per side until golden brown. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding. Once done, transfer to a paper towel to drain and cool.
  • Preheat the broiler in the oven. Brush tofu slices with more barbecue sauce and let them marinate while the broiler is heating up. Place the tofu on a broiler pan or wire rack set over a baking sheet for optimal cooking.
  • Place the oven rack 6 inches below the heat source and broil each side for 5 minutes until golden and crispy, keeping a close eye to prevent burning. Serve warm with the extra barbeque sauce for dipping.
