Upgrade your lunch with a crispy fried sandwich by adding chicken, perfect for pairing with a fresh tossed salad.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 6 slices white bread
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 12 slices thinly sliced deli ham
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions:
  • Spread a tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of bread. On three slices, layer Dijon mustard over the butter, then add 4 slices of ham. On the other three slices, spread mayonnaise and top with 2 slices of Swiss cheese. Press the ham and cheese sides of the sandwiches together.
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, eggs, and water in a flat bottomed dish until combined. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the remaining butter with vegetable oil. Dip both sides of each sandwich in the egg mixture, then fry in the butter and oil until golden brown on both sides.
