A delicious homemade white bread loaf baked in a Dutch oven, perfect for sandwiches or toast.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • cooking spray
Instructions:
  • In the bowl of an electric stand mixer, add bread flour, water, salt, and sprinkle yeast over the surface. Let it dissolve and turn creamy for about 5 minutes.
  • Mix on medium speed using the paddle attachment until dough comes together, then switch to the dough hook and mix for 10 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let the dough rise until it doubles in size, which should take about 30 to 45 minutes. Test the dough by pressing a finger into it; it should leave an indentation without springing back completely. If it does spring back, continue to let it rise.
  • Transfer dough to a floured surface, gently deflate to remove excess gas and evenly spread yeast. Cover with a clean dish towel and allow to rest for 10-15 minutes.
  • Form dough into a smooth, round boule by gently rotating it on the counter. Cover with a clean dish towel and let rise for approximately 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) and generously grease a Dutch oven with cooking spray.
  • Using a sharp knife, gently score an "X" on the top of the dough to assist in expansion during baking. Transfer the loaf into the prepared Dutch oven and cover with the lid.
  • 1. Preheat the oven and bake the dish for 10 minutes. Then, lower the temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C), cover, and bake for 20 more minutes. Finally, uncover and bake until golden brown, for 25 to 30 minutes.
