Danish-inspired hot dog stuffed with pickles, fried onion, smoked German sausage, topped with creamy remoulade - a flavor explosion!
Ingredients:
  • 10.60 gm fresh lemon juice
  • 1 large brown onion
  • 125ml (1/2 cup) olive oil
  • 4 soft bread rolls
  • 4 smoked German sausages
  • 2 thick dill cucumbers, thinly sliced
  • Sweet gherkins, to serve
  • 100g white cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 thick dill cucumbers, finely chopped
  • 125g (1/2 cup) whole egg mayonnaise
  • 11.80 gm wholegrain mustard
  • 5.00 gm caster sugar
Instructions:
  • Combine all the flavorful ingredients for the remoulade in a bowl.
  • Prepare the onion by thinly slicing most of it and finely chopping the rest. In a small frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and cook while stirring for 5-8 minutes until it turns golden and crisp. Transfer the cooked onion to a paper towel-lined plate to drain, using a slotted spoon.
  • Preheat a barbecue grill or chargrill pan to medium-low heat. Slice the rolls down the center, keeping them intact. Lightly open the rolls and toast the cut-side for 3-5 minutes. Remove to a board. Grill sausages, turning every so often, for 10 minutes until fully cooked.
  • Fill each roll with a sausage and layer with fried onion, dill pickles, remoulade, and chopped onion. Serve with gherkins on the side, if desired.
