Make a crowd-pleasing double-crust apple Danish in a 9x13 inch pan.
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 10 apples - peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg white
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a measuring cup, beat egg yolk and add enough milk to make 2/3 cup total liquid. Stir into flour mixture until all flour is damp. Divide dough in half and roll out one half into a rectangle on a floured surface to fit a 9x13 inch pan.
  • Combine apples, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl until well mixed. Transfer apple mixture to the pan. Roll out the remaining dough and place it over the apples. Seal the edges and create slits in the top dough. Beat the egg white until frothy and brush it over the crust.
  • Simply bake in the oven until beautifully golden brown, about 50 minutes.
