Crispy golden French toast with a chewy interior when fried.
Ingredients:
  • 5.5 teaspoons white sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
  • 8 thick slices (1-inch thick) French bread
Instructions:
  • In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, sugar, and salt, beat until fluffy. Next, pour in the milk, then gradually whisk in the flour until the batter is smooth.
  • Preheat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) until it shimmers.
  • Dunk the bread slices in the egg mixture until fully soaked, then remove excess egg. Deep-fry a few pieces at once for even cooking. Fry until both sides are golden brown and the center is no longer soggy, approximately 4 minutes. Drain on a paper towel before serving.
