Irresistible deep-fried morel mushrooms: savory, crispy, and effortlessly delicious. Perfect for impressing guests at your next gathering.
Ingredients:
  • 20 large fresh morel mushrooms
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Italian cracker crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or more to taste
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.125 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Soak morels in a generous bowl of warm, salted water for 30 minutes. After soaking, drain and gently pat dry with paper towels; set aside.
  • In a small bowl, thoroughly mix milk and egg. In a large resealable plastic bag, blend flour, cracker crumbs, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, oregano, thyme, and cumin.
  • Preheat oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Dip a few mushrooms at a time into the milk mixture while the oil is heating. Coat them in the breading mixture, ensuring to shake off any excess.
  • Fry the breaded mushrooms in batches until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides, then let them drain on paper towels.
