Enhance holiday decor with handmade snowflake candles for unique gifts.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 6 tablespoons warm water
  • Small paintbrush
  • Taper candles, if desired
  • Glitter, edible glitter or granulated sugar
  • Nylon thread, string or ribbon
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on low speed to combine powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until the sugar is moistened. Increase the speed to high and beat for 5 to 7 minutes until the mixture is very glossy and stiff peaks form.
  • Transfer the icing into a piping bag fitted with a #10 tip, or use a sturdy plastic bag and cut off one corner. Remember to cover the tip with a damp paper towel between uses to keep the icing from setting.
  • Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper or cooking parchment paper. Adjust snowflake patterns as needed and place them under the waxed paper. Pipe frosting following the lines of the patterns, beginning with the longest lines. Use a small paintbrush dipped in water to fix any imperfections while decorating each snowflake. For candle decorations, freehand draw snowflakes or use a toothpick or pin to sketch the design before piping the icing.
  • Brush the snowflake with water and sprinkle with edible glitter or sugar. Let it dry, then remove from waxed paper. Attach nylon thread to hang as decorations.
