"Indulgent dulce de leche bars with a buttery shortbread crust, caramel, pecans, and coconut topping."
Ingredients:
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (12.5 fl oz) can dulce de leche
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 0.75 cup pecans, toasted and chopped
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and generously grease an 8x8-inch baking pan.
  • Cream together butter and sugar with an electric mixer until creamy. Mix in egg and vanilla extract until well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, then add flour and salt. Mix until a dough ball forms.
  • Spread two-thirds of the dough evenly onto the bottom of the baking pan.
  • Bake until golden brown and set in the preheated oven for around 20 minutes.
  • Drizzle the indulgent dulce de leche over the crust, leaving the edges elegantly exposed.
  • Incorporate coconut and pecans into the remaining dough. Crumble mixture over the dulce de leche, gently pressing it on top.
  • Bake for around 15 minutes until golden brown, then allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.
