Decadent caramel custard made with simple ingredients, baked evenly for a luscious dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon hot water, or as needed
  • 1 cup milk
  • 5 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Combine 1 tablespoon water and 1/4 cup sugar in a heavy saucepan over medium heat until the sugar is moistened. Let it boil and cook until a golden brown syrup forms, around 5 minutes. No need to stir. Remove from heat and let boil subside. Gently stir in 1 tablespoon hot water into the caramel syrup.
  • In a saucepan over low heat, combine milk and 5 tablespoons of sugar, whisk gently until sugar dissolves and mixture is just warmed. Remove from heat and whisk in eggs. Pour caramel syrup into an 8x8-inch baking dish, then pour in the egg-milk mixture. Place the baking dish inside a larger dish and add water to the outer dish until it reaches halfway up the sides of the inner dish.
  • Place the dish in the oven and bake until the custard is fully set, approximately 45 minutes. Allow it to cool for about 10 minutes, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
