Versatile microwave custard filling for desserts, customizable with extracts.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups milk
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Pour milk into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high until hot, but not boiling, for 2 to 4 minutes.
  • In another microwave-safe bowl, mix sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually whisk in hot milk until well combined. Microwave on high in 1-minute increments, stirring each time, until thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk eggs until pale and frothy. Gradually incorporate 1/3 cup of the milk mixture into the eggs, then whisk the egg mixture into the remaining milk until smooth. Microwave on high until custard thickens, about 2 minutes. Let it cool slightly before serving.
  • Mix in the vanilla with the custard until well combined. Chill in the refrigerator until completely cool, approximately 30 minutes, before using.
