Authentic enchilada sauce: tomato sauce with Indian-style chili powder and spices for easy and delicious flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons self-rising flour
  • 2 tablespoons medium-spice Indian chili powder
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.75 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 0.75 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.75 teaspoon onion salt
Instructions:
  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, warm the oil. Add flour and chili powder, then lower heat to medium. Cook until the flour turns a light brown color, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Pour the water and tomato sauce slowly into the skillet while whisking the flour mixture until smooth. Add oregano, cumin, garlic powder, and onion salt; cook until the sauce slightly thickens, about 3 to 5 minutes. Season with salt to taste.
