Classic cottage pie: savoury ground beef, carrots, and onions under gooey mashed potato blanket. Baked to warm hearts.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 3 carrots, diced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1.5 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.25 cup butter, softened
  • 0.25 pound shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
  • Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the ground beef until crumbly, around 5 to 7 minutes. Add onion and carrot, cook until onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in flour, Italian seasoning, and cinnamon. Finally, mix in the parsley.
  • Mix the beef broth and tomato paste in a jug, then pour it into the beef mixture. Season with salt and pepper, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a medium saucepan, cook diced potatoes in boiling water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash until smooth. Whip in milk and butter until fluffy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Transfer flavorful ground beef mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with a generous layer of creamy mashed potatoes and finish with a sprinkle of sharp Cheddar cheese on top.
  • Bake in a hot oven until the top gets golden brown and the cheese is bubbling, around 25 minutes.
