Indulgent homemade vanilla buttercream frosting - quick and perfect for any cake or cupcake. Your new favorite frosting!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 cups (460g) powdered sugar
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch kosher salt
Instructions:
  • Cream the butter: Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat the butter until creamy in a mixing bowl.
  • Combine the powdered sugar and a splash of cream: Add 2 cups of powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of heavy cream to the mixture. Blend on low until the sugar is mixed in, scrape the sides, then increase speed to high and beat for 1 minute. Scrape the bowl and repeat with the remaining 2 cups of sugar and another 1 tablespoon of cream.
  • Add the vanilla and salt to the mixture and beat until well combined. If the buttercream is too stiff, gradually beat in 1 to 2 tablespoons of cream until it reaches the desired consistency - thick enough to hold a peak, yet soft enough to be easily spread.
