Create two stunning braided loaves inspired by everything bagel toppings. Glazed with shiny egg wash and sprinkled with dried onion, garlic, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and a touch of kosher salt for added flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 2.5 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 3 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour, or more if needed
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried minced garlic
  • 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
  • Combine the yeast, water, and sugar in a large bowl, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Allow the mixture to rest until a creamy layer forms on top, approximately 5 minutes. Mix in the oil, then sprinkle 2 tablespoons of salt, 2 tablespoons of poppy seeds, 2 tablespoons of dried onion, 1 tablespoon of dried garlic, garlic powder, and onion powder over the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time up to 6 cups, and adjust by half-cups as necessary to achieve an elastic dough that isn't sticky.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a round, place in an oiled bowl, turn it over a few times to coat it in oil, cover with a cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm area until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Prepare baking sheets with parchment paper. Divide the dough into 2 equal pieces. For 3-strand braided loaves, cut each piece into 3. Roll each small piece on a floured surface into a 12-inch rope, thicker in the middle and thinner at the ends. Combine 3 ropes at the top and braid them, alternating sides until done. Pinch ends together and tuck under. Transfer to baking sheets. Cover and let the loaves rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  • - Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). - Combine sesame seeds, kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds, 1/2 teaspoon dried onion, and 1/2 teaspoon dried garlic in a small bowl. - Brush the loaves with beaten egg and generously sprinkle with the flavorful seed mixture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, until the loaves are cooked through and golden brown. Check for doneness after 45 minutes.
