Tender round steak cooked in savory ketchup and onions creates a rich gravy perfect for drizzling over creamy mashed potatoes. A beloved family classic.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 (1 1/2 pound) round steak, cut into serving-size pieces
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, or as needed
  • 1 (14 ounce) bottle ketchup
  • 2 cups warm water
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, mix the flour and salt. Press the steak into the flour mixture, coating it evenly, then shake off any extra flour.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the beef on all sides in vegetable oil for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the beef, drain excess oil, then stir in ketchup, onion, and water. Return the meat to the skillet, reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until tender for about 1 hour.
