Deliciously rustic apple galette with buttery crust. Bursting with apple goodness!
Ingredients:
  • 1.125 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 0.5 cup butter, cut into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons ice water, or as needed
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar, or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 5 apples - peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar crystals
Instructions:
  • Prepare the pastry dough by combining flour, white sugar, and salt in a bowl. Use your fingers to blend butter pieces into the mixture until it looks like coarse crumbs.
  • Create a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in water and vanilla, then swiftly incorporate them into the flour to form a loose dough. Add more water if the mixture is crumbly. The dough should hold together when squeezed, while still being slightly crumbly. Shape the dough into a flat disc, wrap it in plastic, and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  • Combine brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix in apples until coated. Allow flavors to meld for 10 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to a piping hot 450°F (230°C).
  • Shape dough into a generous circle on a baking stone or sheet. Fill the center with apple mixture, keeping a 2-inch border uncovered. Add 1 tablespoon of butter on top of the apples.
  • Carefully wrap the edges of the dough over the apples, ensuring there is an opening in the center. Gently place 1 tablespoon of butter on top of the dough and generously sprinkle coarse sugar over the top.
  • Bake in the oven until the crust is crisp and golden, and the apples are tender and caramelized, for 40-45 minutes.
