Filipino-style spaghetti: hot dog slices and banana ketchup make a delicious twist on a classic dish.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 head garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (26.5 ounce) can spaghetti sauce
  • 1 (14 ounce) jar banana ketchup
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 pound hot dogs, sliced diagonally
  • 0.5 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
  • Fill a large pot with salted water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add spaghetti and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until al dente, for about 12 minutes. Drain well in a colander.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, heat vegetable oil. Add garlic and onion; cook until onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Add beef and pork, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Stir in spaghetti sauce, banana ketchup, sugar, and water. Simmer until thickened, about 15 minutes. Add hot dog slices and cook until heated through. Serve over spaghetti, sprinkled with Cheddar cheese.
