Fizzy Ginger-Cranberry Punch

A delightful punch with a trio of ginger flavors: fresh ginger, candied ginger, and spicy ginger beer.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup chopped gingerroot
  • 2 tablespoons candied ginger
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
  • 1 bottle (12 oz) ginger beer
  • 1 1/2 cups cranberry juice
  • 1 cup soda water
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 to 4 dashes aromatic bitters
  • 1/2 to 1 cup gin
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup Ginger Syrup
  • Ice
  • Grated orange peel or slices
Instructions:
  • In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup sugar, water, and chopped gingerroot to a boil over high heat. Let it boil for 1 minute to dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat and let it cool completely for about 20 minutes. Strain out the ginger pieces and transfer the Ginger Syrup to a glass jar.
  • Place the Sugar for Rim ingredients in a food processor and pulse until combined. Transfer the mixture to a shallow dish.
  • Combine all Punch ingredients in a carafe or pitcher, excluding ice and orange slices. Add gin and ginger syrup to your liking, then stir the mixture thoroughly.
  • To serve, wet the rim of each glass with water or an orange wedge, then dip in sugar to coat. Fill glasses with ice and pour in the punch. Finally, garnish each glass with an orange peel.
