Make delicious French baguettes in a bread machine perfect for sandwiches, bruschetta, or cheese plates.
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons bread machine yeast
  • cooking spray
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
  • Add flour, 1 cup of water, sugar, yeast, and salt to the bread machine pan following the manufacturer's instructions. Choose the Dough cycle and start the machine.
  • Grease a bowl and cookie sheet with cooking spray while the cycle is running; set aside.
  • After the cycle is finished, transfer the dough to the greased bowl, making sure to coat all sides evenly.
  • Allow the dough to rest in a cozy spot until it doubles in size, approximately 30 minutes. It's ready when a gentle touch leaves an indentation.
  • Deflate dough and place on a floured surface. Roll into a 16x12-inch rectangle. Cut dough in half to make two 8x12-inch rectangles. Roll each half tightly from a long side, removing air bubbles. Gently roll to taper ends.
  • Place the dough portions 3 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Create deep diagonal slashes across the loaves every 2 inches or make one lengthwise slash on each loaf. Cover the loaves and let them rise in a warm place until doubled in size, for about 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • Combine egg yolk and 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl, then brush over the tops of the loaves.
  • Bake until beautifully golden, about 20-25 minutes in the preheated oven.
