Orange oat scones with a delightful twist.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup firm butter or margarine
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons half-and-half
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Combine flour, oats, 3 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, orange peel, and salt in a medium bowl. Use a pastry blender or 2 knives to cut in the butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add the egg and enough half-and-half to make the dough come together.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it 10 times. Form the dough into a 7-inch circle that is 1/2 inch thick on an ungreased cookie sheet. Cut the dough into 6 wedges using a sharp knife dipped in flour without separating them. Brush the wedges with orange juice then sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sugar.
  • Bake for 10 to 14 minutes until golden brown, then promptly take out of the oven and gently separate the wedges before serving warm.
