Create delicious Southern fried green tomatoes in just one hour.
Ingredients:
  • 2 large firm green tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
Instructions:
  • Slice tomatoes into thick 1/4 inch slices. Place in colander, sprinkle with salt, and let sit for 30 minutes to release water. Pat dry with paper towels.
  • Pour buttermilk into a shallow bowl. In a separate shallow bowl, mix flour with salt and pepper. Dip tomatoes in buttermilk, ensuring both sides are coated, then lightly shake off any excess. Next, coat tomatoes in flour mixture, making sure both sides are covered; gently shake off any excess flour.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy saucepan until it reaches 375°F. Fry 2 tomatoes at a time until golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
