Indulge in a delectable baked fruit bread stuffing, a must-have side dish for every gathering.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 large stalks celery (with leaves), chopped (1 1/2 cups)
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 9 cups soft bread cubes (about 15 slices bread)
  • 1 cup diced orange sections or mandarin orange segments
  • 1 cup chopped cooking apple
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh or 1 1/2 teaspoons dried sage leaves
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh or 1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease a 3-quart casserole or a 13x9x2-inch rectangular baking dish with shortening, covering both the bottom and sides for easy release of your delicious dish.
  • In a 4-quart Dutch oven, melt butter over medium-high heat. Saute celery and onion in the butter until tender, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
  • Combine the celery mixture with the remaining ingredients and spoon the mixture into a casserole dish.
  • Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until heated through.
