Tender beef rouladen seared and simmered in savory beef broth, served with a luscious sour cream gravy - a classic German delight.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup Dijon mustard
  • 8 (4 ounce) pieces round steak, pounded 1/4 inch thick
  • 0.5 cup minced onion
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 (12 ounce) can beef broth
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup warm water
Instructions:
  • Coat each piece of steak with a layer of tangy mustard, then generously season with onion, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Place a slice of bacon on each steak, then tightly roll them up and secure with toothpicks.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the beef rouladen in canola oil. Add broth and water, then bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 30 minutes until tender.
  • Strain out the beef rouladen. Return the flavorful broth to the skillet. In a bowl, whisk cornstarch with 1 cup of water until smooth. Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the skillet, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens, for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Incorporate the sour cream into the sauce, add back the rolls, and serve promptly.
