Flank steak roll-ups filled with savory bacon, onions, pickles, and simmered in rich beef broth. Served with spaetzle to soak up the luscious gravy.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 pounds flank steak
  • German stone ground mustard, to taste
  • 0.5 pound thick sliced bacon
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar dill pickle slices
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 1 cube beef bouillon
Instructions:
  • Slice the flank steak into thin filets, approximately 1/4 inch thick and 3 inches wide.
  • Spread one side of each filet generously with mustard to your liking. Top with bacon, onions, and pickle slices, then roll them up. Secure the roll with string or toothpicks.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat, melt butter, then saute rolls until golden brown.
  • Add 2 1/2 cups of water to the pot and drop in the bouillon cube. Stir until the cube dissolves. Let the rolls simmer for approximately an hour.
