German-style mushroom bacon sauce with sour cream enhances fried pork dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon butter, or to taste
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 10 mushrooms, thickly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons water, or as needed
  • 1 teaspoon beef bouillon
  • 2 slices cooked bacon
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions:
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté onion and mushrooms until tender, covered, for a total of 30 minutes.
  • Add just enough water to the skillet to moisten the onion-mushroom mixture. Stir in the bouillon until dissolved. Cut the bacon into small pieces directly over the sauce. Simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
  • Turn the heat up to medium and incorporate sour cream and cornstarch into the mixture. Continuously stir until the sauce is smooth and thickened, which should take approximately 2 minutes.
