Master rolled-out cookies with Betty's foolproof tips for sweet treats!
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Assorted candies, if desired
  • String, if desired
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
  • Combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, peanut butter, butter, shortening, and egg in a large bowl until smooth. Mix in flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until fully incorporated. Refrigerate the mixture for a minimum of 3 hours, then enjoy!
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Divide the dough in half and roll each half to 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Use a 3x2-inch ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place the shapes on an ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. If using as decorations, create a hole at the top of each cookie with a plastic straw or a sharp knife, and cut out eye holes if desired.
  • Bake for 6 to 8 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool for 2 minutes, then transfer from the baking sheet to a cooling rack. Let cool fully for about 30 minutes.
  • Mix the glaze ingredients in a medium bowl until smooth and easy to spread. Spread the glaze on the cookies, then decorate with candies. Thread string through the holes to hang the cookies.
