Molasses-free gingerbread cookies for a crisp and delicious treat, ideal for decorating or enjoying on their own.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons dark corn syrup
  • 4 teaspoons grated orange peel
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
  • Heat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Add the egg and beat until light and fluffy. Stir in the corn syrup and orange peel until fully combined.
  • Combine flour, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt in a separate bowl. Mix into creamed butter until well combined. Shape dough into balls, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before using.
  • In batches, roll out each chilled dough ball on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut out shapes and transfer them to ungreased cookie sheets. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes until edges are firm. Cool on the baking sheet for 1 minute, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
