Delicious gingerbread stars add festive flair to our Naked Gingerbread Layer Cake.
Ingredients:
  • 25g butter
  • 90g golden syrup
  • 55g brown sugar
  • 150g plain flour
  • 35g self-raising flour
  • 5.00 gm ground ginger
  • 2.50 gm ground cinnamon
  • 1.25 gm ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 Free Range Egg yolk
  • Royal icing or designer icing, to decorate
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 180°C. In a saucepan over low heat, combine butter, golden syrup, and sugar. Stir and cook for 3 mins until the butter melts and mixture is smooth. Allow to cool slightly.
  • Pour the fragrant butter mixture into a spacious bowl. Mix in the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and egg yolk until well combined. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until it is smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes until firm.
  • Prepare a baking tray with parchment paper. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a 3mm-thick disc. Use star-shaped cutters of varying sizes to cut stars from the dough, and place them on the prepared tray. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly golden. Allow to cool completely on the tray before decorating with icing.
