Sparkling sugar star cookies - a festive addition to any holiday spread.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 4 oz white chocolate baking bars or squares, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons coarse white sparkling sugar
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to blend brown sugar, butter, molasses, and egg until smooth. Add flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, and cloves on low speed. Shape dough into a disk on a floured surface, wrap it in plastic, and chill for 1 hour until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and gently spray large cookie sheets with cooking spray. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness and use a floured 3- to 4-inch star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place the cutouts on the cookie sheets, leaving 2 inches of space between each. Repeat the process of rolling and cutting until all the dough is used up.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the center springs back when touched. Transfer to cooling racks and let cool completely.
  • Microwave white chocolate in a small bowl until melted, stirring until smooth. Transfer to a resealable plastic bag and cut a small corner off. Drizzle chocolate over cookies, sprinkle with sparkling sugar, and let sit for 30 minutes until set.
