Spectacular waffles with molasses and spices, drizzled with homemade chocolate sauce for a decadent breakfast indulgence.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup light molasses
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions:
  • Warm molasses and 1/2 cup of butter in a small saucepan until nearly boiling. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Mix in baking soda, milk, and egg.
  • Combine flour, ginger, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Create a well in the center and add the molasses mixture. Stir until smooth.
  • Prepare the preheated waffle iron by spraying it with non-stick cooking spray. Pour the waffle mix onto the hot iron and cook until golden brown. Serve the waffle hot with chocolate sauce.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, mix together water, 1 cup of sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir constantly until it boils. Take off the heat and stir in vanilla and 2 tablespoons of butter until smooth.
