Homemade yeast doughnuts with irresistible glazed icing, better than store-bought, easy and enjoyable to bake!
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup scalded milk
  • 0.33333334326744 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 (.25 ounce) envelope active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup warm water
  • 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 0.33333334326744 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • oil for deep frying
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 6 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
  • Combine scalded milk, sugar, and salt in a large bowl and let it cool until tepid. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it stand for about 5 minutes until creamy.
  • In a bowl, combine flour and nutmeg. Then add 2 cups of the flour mixture to the milk mixture and beat until fully blended.
  • Combine yeast mixture with milk and flour, then incorporate butter and eggs. Gradually add the rest of the flour mixture, 1/2 cup at a time. Once the dough reaches a firm consistency, transfer to a floured surface and knead for 3 to 4 minutes. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a 1/2-inch thickness. Use a donut or round cutter to cut into circles. Allow the dough to rise until light, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
  • In a deep, heavy frying pan, heat oil until it reaches 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Fry donuts in hot oil in batches until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and glaze while warm or sprinkle with sugar.
  • Mix confectioners' sugar and 6 tablespoons of milk in a bowl until velvety. Submerge freshly baked donuts into the glaze and let them cool.
