Succulent shrimp cooked with a blend of Gochujang and honey for a delightful spicy-sweet kick.
Ingredients:
  • 16 ounces uncooked medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • garlic powder to taste
  • salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean hot and sweet pepper paste), or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root
  • 1.5 tablespoons vegetable oil, or more as needed
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • scallions, sliced diagonally, as a garnish
Instructions:
  • Season shrimp generously with aromatic garlic powder and a pinch of salt on both sides, allowing the flavors to meld together while you prepare the other ingredients.
  • Mix together the gochujang, honey, sesame oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, garlic, and ginger in a bowl until fully incorporated. Then, set it aside for later use.
  • Heat oil in a non-stick skillet until sizzling. Cook shrimp until pink on the outside and opaque, about 2-3 minutes, flipping once. Avoid overcooking. Remove shrimp from the pan.
  • Lower the heat and pour the sauce into the skillet. Combine water and cornstarch in a small bowl to create a slurry. Mix the slurry into the sauce until thoroughly combined. Continue to cook while stirring constantly until the sauce begins to thicken slightly, approximately 1 minute. Return the shrimp to the skillet and stir until they are coated and heated through.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped scallions before serving while hot.
