Classic, foolproof cake recipe that never fails.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F then generously grease and flour a 12-cup fluted tube cake pan or a 10-inch angel food (tube) cake pan. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; set this mixture aside for later use.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat together sugar, butter, almond extract, and eggs on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl constantly. Increase the speed to high and beat for 5 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally. Gradually mix in the flour mixture and milk on low speed. Pour the batter into the pan.
  • Bake for 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool for 20 minutes, then remove from the pan onto a wire rack. Allow it to cool completely for about 40 minutes.
