Greek pasta with aromatic cinnamon-infused meat sauce, topped with rich Mizithra and mozzarella cheese.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package rotini pasta
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 6 tomatoes, grated
  • 1 sweet yellow onion, grated
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 cups shredded Mizithra cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
  • Boil rotini in salted water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and toss with 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large bowl.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, warm up 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Cook and stir the ground beef until it browns, approximately 10 minutes. Add tomatoes, onion, water, tomato paste, cinnamon, sugar, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine. Let the meat sauce simmer over medium-low heat for 20 minutes to marry the flavors.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Drizzle the flavorful meat sauce over the rotini and stir until combined. Spread half of the pasta mixture in a baking dish, then layer with half of the Mizithra and mozzarella cheeses. Add the remaining pasta mixture and top with the rest of the cheeses for a gooey, cheesy finish.
  • Bake in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbling, approximately 40 minutes.
