French-style green bean casserole with crispy bread crumbs and savory chicken broth.
Ingredients:
  • 2 bags (12 oz each) frozen cut green beans
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (1/4 cup)
  • 2 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Progresso™ chicken broth (from 32-oz carton)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups Progresso™ panko crispy bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
  • - Preheat your oven to 400°F. Spray a 11x7-inch (2-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. Cook the green beans according to the instructions on the bag and then set them aside.
  • In a 3-quart saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium-high heat. Saute the onion for 4 minutes until tender. Add flour and cook for 3 more minutes, stirring constantly. Pour in the broth and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and whisk in black pepper, salt, red pepper, and sour cream until smooth. Gently stir in the green beans and transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  • Microwave the remaining 1/4 cup of butter in a medium microwavable bowl until melted. Stir in the bread crumbs and cheese until well mixed. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the green beans.
  • Bake for 20-23 minutes until bubbly with a golden brown topping, uncovered.
