Create simple and fun party cakes with candies and frosting, no special skills needed!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • 1 1/4 cups bubble gum-flavored soda pop or water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 egg whites
  • Red or blue food color (to match color of soda pop), if desired
  • Tray or cardboard, covered with foil or wrapping paper and plastic food wrap
  • 1 tub (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Vanilla Frosting
  • 1 teaspoon red or blue liquid or paste food color
  • 1 bar (1.5 oz) chocolate-covered crispy candy
  • 1 tube (0.68 oz) Betty Crocker™ blue decorating gel
  • 1 foil-covered chocolate coin
  • 1 peanut-shaped candy
  • Gum balls
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (or 325°F for dark or nonstick pans), and grease the bottoms of one 8-inch or 9-inch round pan and one 8-inch square pan.
  • In a spacious bowl, use an electric mixer to blend together cake mix, soda pop, oil, egg whites, and a few drops of food color. Start on low speed for 30 seconds, then switch to medium speed for 2 minutes, making sure to scrape the bowl occasionally. Evenly distribute the batter between the pans.
  • Bake for 26 to 34 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes, then run a knife around the sides of the pans to loosen the cakes and transfer them to a cooling rack. Let cool completely for about 1 hour. Optional: Freeze the cakes uncovered for 1 hour to make frosting easier.
  • Begin by positioning the round cake near one end of the tray to create the globe of the gum ball machine. Spread half of the frosting over the top and sides of the cake. Next, place the square cake next to the round one to form the machine base. Mix 1 teaspoon of food color into the remaining frosting and frost the sides and top of the base. Wrap a candy bar with foil and position it near the bottom of the base. Use decorating gel to draw a trap door on the candy bar. Arrange the chocolate coin and peanut candy above the candy bar, and then place the gum balls on the globe. Finally, store the creation loosely covered until ready to serve.
