Gyudon Japanese Beef Bowl

Savory beef and onions cooked in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, sake, and brown sugar for delicious Japanese Gyudon bowls.
Ingredients:
1 large white onion
1teaspoonvegetable oil
0.5 cupwater
1tablespoonmirin
1tablespoonsake
0.5 poundbeef ribeye steak, thinly sliced
1tablespoonsesame seeds, or to taste
2green onions, thinly sliced, or to taste
2teaspoons pickled ginger (beni shoga), or to taste
1sheetdried seaweed, cut into strips, or to taste
Instructions:
Cut the onion in half, remove the central core, and thinly slice the halves.
In a hot skillet or wok, caramelize onion in oil for 30 seconds. Stir in water, soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, and sake. Simmer on medium-low heat for 3 minutes to blend flavors.
Add the beef to the skillet and cover it to cook until the beef is fully cooked, which should take around 3 to 5 minutes. Serve the dish in individual bowls and top with sesame seeds, green onions, ginger, and seaweed strips for garnish.
