Popular Japanese gyudon: Thin beef sirloin in dashi, mirin, sake, and onions over rice.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups Japanese sushi-style rice
  • 1.3333333730698 cups dashi soup
  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons mirin
  • 1 teaspoon sake
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef sirloin, cut into 2-inch pieces
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, bring water and rice to a boil. Lower the heat to medium-low, cover, and let it simmer until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed, about 20 to 25 minutes.
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, simmer dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake until boiling. Add onion and cook until softened, about 6 to 8 minutes. Add beef and simmer until no longer pink, around 6 minutes.
  • Distribute the steaming hot rice evenly among separate deep rice bowls and then layer with the savory simmered beef mixture.
