Japanese beef and egg rice bowl simmered in sake, mirin, and soy sauce - a traditional favorite!
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 6 tablespoons mirin (Japanese sweet wine)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sake
  • 1 onion, cut into wedges
  • 10 ounces beef, thinly sliced
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pickled ginger (beni shoga), or to taste
Instructions:
  • Evenly distribute the rice among 4 donburi bowls.
  • In a pot over medium heat, let the mirin, soy sauce, and sake come to a gentle boil. Cook the onion until translucent by stirring for about 5 minutes. Add the beef and simmer until fully cooked and no longer pink, approximately 5 minutes. Serve the beef and onion over rice using a slotted spoon.
  • Add eggs to pot and bring to a boil. Cook for 5-7 minutes until soft boiled. Peel the eggs and place in bowls. Top with pickled ginger for a delicious touch.
