Hearty ham and bean soup with creamy white beans, potatoes, and aromatic veggies - a winter warmer for the soul.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound dried great northern beans
  • 1 pound cooked ham, diced
  • 1 (10 ounce) ham bone
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 4 stalks celery, sliced
  • 1 bouquet garni
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • water to cover
  • 3 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 medium carrots, sliced
Instructions:
  • Place the beans in a spacious container and cover with cool water, allowing them to soak for 8 hours or overnight.
  • After rinsing the beans, combine them in a large stockpot with flavorful ham, a savory ham bone, zesty tomato sauce, aromatic onions and celery, a bundle of herbs, fresh parsley, a pinch of baking soda, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Fill the pot with water, then bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Lower the heat and let it simmer gently for 2 hours. Introduce potatoes and carrots to the pot and allow them to simmer until soft, approximately 20 minutes. Adjust the seasoning with salt as needed. Finally, remove the ham bone before serving.
