Impress your teen on her birthday with a unique homemade cake instead of ordering one from a bakery!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • Tray or cardboard, 18x16 inches, covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 1 1/2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Creamy White Frosting
  • Betty Crocker™ pink gel food color
  • Decorating bag with tips
  • 12 white candy-coated chewing gum squares
  • 1 package (3.2 oz) marshmallow flowers
  • 3 oval licorice candies
  • 1 candy straw
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan) and spray bottom only of a 13x9-inch pan with baking spray with flour. Prepare and bake cake mix according to package instructions for a 13x9-inch pan. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Let it cool completely, for about 1 hour.
  • Trim the long sides of the cake by cutting a 1 1/4-inch strip from each. Round off the corners to create a cell phone shape. Place the cake on a tray and freeze for 1 hour.
  • Divide 1 container of white frosting in half, which should yield about 3/4 cup each. Mix a small amount of food color into one half of the frosting to create a lovely shade of pink. Spread the pink frosting over the bottom half of the cake and then generously layer the white frosting over the top half of the cake. Enjoy the beautiful contrast of colors on your cake!
  • Set aside 2 tablespoons of white frosting from 1/2 container. Dye 1/4 cup of frosting pink. Spread pink frosting in a square shape for the message screen on the center of the white-frosted cake half. Fill a piping bag with the remaining pink frosting and outline the white-frosted cake. Decorate the cake with gum for number buttons and write numbers using the pink frosting.
  • Use the white frosting to write your message on the message screen. Decorate with marshmallow flowers and licorice candies, and add a candy straw for the antenna. Store the dessert loosely covered.
