Upgrade cinnamon rolls with Neufchatel cheese for a healthier, budget-friendly twist without sacrificing taste.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 0.33333334326744 cup margarine, melted
  • 4.5 cups bread flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons bread machine yeast
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2.5 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 (3 ounce) package Neufchatel cheese, softened
  • 0.25 cup butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups confectioners' sugar
Instructions:
  • Add milk, eggs, margarine, bread flour, white sugar, and yeast to the bread machine pan in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Choose the dough cycle and start the machine.
  • After the dough has doubled in size, gently transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Cover and allow it to rest for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Roll the dough into a generous 16x21-inch rectangle. Evenly spread 2 tablespoons of butter over the surface and sprinkle with the sugar mixture. Roll the dough up and slice into 12 rolls. Arrange the rolls in a lightly greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Cover and allow to rest until nearly doubled in size, around 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) for optimal baking temperature.
  • Bake the rolls in a hot oven until they turn a beautiful golden brown, approximately 15 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, cream Neufchatel cheese, 1/4 cup of butter, confectioner's sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread the delicious frosting on warm rolls just before serving.
