Indulge in delightful heart-shaped sugar cookies!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3 to 3 1/2 tablespoons milk
  • Betty Crocker™ colored sugars
  • Betty Crocker™ decorating icings (from 4.25-oz tubes)
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter, 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, vanilla, and egg using an electric mixer on medium speed or mix by hand. Add flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar, and mix until combined. Cover and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours until chilled.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Divide the dough in half and roll each portion to 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Use a 3 1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the shapes. Place the cutouts on an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart, and sprinkle with colored sugars if desired.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until delicately golden, then transfer to a cooling rack. Allow to cool completely for about 30 minutes.
  • Combine glaze ingredients in a small bowl until smooth. Spread it over the cookies and garnish with decorator icings.
